A new anime movie has been announced for Tsutomu Nihei‘s Knights of Sidonia series. The new movie, scheduled for release in 2021, will be titled Knights of Sidonia: Ai Tsumugu Hoshi. A teaser visual and announcement video were released at the same time.
Knights of Sidonia is a Sci-Fi mecha series set in space. It tells the story of Nagate Tanikaze’s battle against aliens as a Garde (large mechanized weapon) ace pilot. The first season of Knights of Sidonia aired back in April to June 2014 and its second season Knights of Sidonia: Battle for Planet Nine aired from April to June 2015.

The new movie adaptation will feature lots of original content not from the manga. Tsutomu Nihei will supervise the production while Hiroyuki Seshita will serve as Chief Director. Tadahiro “Tady” Yoshihira will be the Director, while Sadayuki Murai and Tetsuya Yamada pen the scripts. Polygon Pictures, which was also in charge of the first two seasons, will continue to animate the movie.
The newly-revealed visual features Nagate Tanikaze and Tsumugi Shiraui touching hands. The announcement PV features the movie’s insert song “Utsusemi” by CAPSULE, a music duo consisting of Yasutaka Nakata and Toshiko Koshijima.
