In conjunction with First Love Day (30 October), here are the results of “Which anime character is your first love?”, male edition.

#1 Sogo Okita and Gintoki Sakata [Gin Tama]
Tied at number one, with 3% of the votes each, are Sogo Okita and Gintoki Sakta of Gin Tama. Comments for series protagonist Gintoki include “He’s normally a sloppy person, but he’s a man who gets things done when it matters.” and “I wished I have such a boss and friend. It’d be fun to get along with him.”
As for Sogo, 1st Division Captain of the Shinsengumi: “The ‘S’ energy he exudes is so cool.” and “His face, his personality, the way he talks… It’s all so perfect.” 
#3 Shinichi Kudo [Detective Conan]
2% of the votes. “The way he solves the mysteries, his football skills, that tinge of smugness, his unique hairstyle… everything about him is so cool!” and “He will come to my aid when I need help.” His rival Kaito Kid – ranked at number four – received comments like “I was attracted by his brilliant steals” and “I love gentlemen.”
This poll received many votes from the same work, namely Kurama and Hiei (Yu Yu Hakusho), Toru Amuro, Shuichi Akai and Heiji Hattori (Detective Conan), Luffy, Sanji and Zoro (One Piece).
There are 20 characters tied at number 15 with equal number of votes each, indicating a huge diverse taste.

The poll – titled “Which anime character is your first love?” – was carried out on 312 people (45% male and 55% female), of which 47% were under the age of 19 and 32% in the 20s.
